Leaf drop. No snow. Bare woods. Harvest over. Not quite winter. That in-between-seasons time much like twilight is to daylight and night light. A few haiku to acknowledge and enjoy nature in this more subdued and quiet period.
a doe the color of late fall woods gathering dusk*
the wind falls away a spill of apples left to rot
honking geese lift the field into flight**
aubergine
the slow curve of shadow
into night***
damp earth
the stone angel
hangs its head****
sometimes
the wind
sometimes
the stillness
what’s left of the willow*****
